Two very different sports on the same small bike. BMX Racing sends eight riders down a gated dirt track for about 35 seconds; BMX Freestyle is a judged run of tricks in a concrete park. Both are Olympic.
Racing is strongest in the Netherlands, France, the United States, Colombia, Australia and Latvia. Freestyle's centres are the United States, Britain, Australia and increasingly Japan and China.
Racing has categories from about five years old upward and masters classes past forty. Freestyle riders typically peak in their twenties.
